Frequently Asked Questions
I am a journalist and would like to update my biography, how can I do that?
I can’t find journalist [name here] when I search for them, why not?
Currently we have about 5,000 journalist feeds on the platform, but we are only able to track journalists from certain news outlets with public APIs (we’re adding more!).
We’re currently pulling journalists from the following news organizations: The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, The Economist, Associated Press, Reuters, The Hill, Wired, TechCrunch, The Verge, Engadget, Bloomberg, BBC News, Politico, Ars-Technica, National Geographic, and Recode.
So, yes, we may not have that one journalist you really really like YET. Let us know who we should add!
Is there a limit on how many journalists I can subscribe to?
Currently, you can subscribe to five journalists! Stay tuned for future feature enhancements. If you find yourself constantly wanting to follow more journalists we would love to enable you to do so if you help us learn a bit more about your news needs
How can I unsubscribe?
Every new story email you receive from us will contain a link at the bottom to unsubscribe. Feel free to let us know why it is that you chose to stop following the journalist in question.
How can I see which journalists I’ve subscribed to?
For now, only when you get updates from the journalist themselves. We’ll be implementing more personalized account management very soon!
How do you make money?
Currently, we don’t. We’re relying on donations from users like yourselves to support the work that we are doing. If you find this a compelling product, please let us know by donating below!
Are you tracking my every move to show me ads on your startup website?
One of the core values of Syndicator is that consumers and journalists should have control, not the media / advertising companies. That said, Syndicator will never rely on advertising to our users to generate revenue.
Who is behind this thing anyway? Are you humans?
Honestly, these days it’s a good question. We’re a tiny crew wearing many hats but roughly as follows:
- Erik Martin - Strategy
- Daniel Kao - Engineering
- Jonathan Dweck - Project Management
- Lan Paje - Growth
- Manasi Maheshwari - Engineering
- Gene Hua - Design
- Anjali Fernandes - Product
What qualifies someone to be a journalist on Syndicator?
This question almost tore us apart. Right now we’re roughly using this definition: Someone who professionally reports truth, facts, and informed perspectives to the public.
I have ideas/feedback/critiques about this project, how do I get in touch?
Do you have a company pet?
It’s called the WebCrab, we’re all very proud. That’s all we’ll say about that.
